The Army PRT App serves as a valuable tool for U.S. Army Soldiers who require an efficient solution for calculating scores related to the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and Body Composition Test (BCA).
The Army Physical Fitness Test comprises two primary components: the Body Composition Assessment and the Physical Fitness Test. The PFT is a three-event assessment designed to evaluate a soldier's endurance and overall physical capabilities, serving as an objective measure of strength, abilities, and cardiovascular fitness across all Military Occupational Specialties. It is mandated that soldiers participate in the APFT at least twice annually, with successful completion of the test being a prerequisite for eligibility in promotions, transfers, and attendance in Army educational programs.
The three events included in the PFT are as follows: two minutes of push-ups, two minutes of sit-ups, and a timed 2-mile run. An overall score of 180 points or higher is required to pass, with a minimum of 60 points necessary in each event. Scoring is determined by age, gender, and performance metrics such as repetitions completed or time taken. Notably, the APFT typically takes place in standard workout attire and running shoes, differentiating it from other military endurance assessments.
The Body Composition Test is essential for ensuring that every soldier maintains optimal health and readiness for combat. Participants are expected to adhere to specific weight standards based on height, weight, and gender. Weigh-ins are required at least twice a year, usually coinciding with the PFT. Failing to meet the Army's prescribed weight or body fat percentage standards can result in disqualification from promotions, transfers, reenlistment opportunities, or attendance at professional schools.
For soldiers who do not meet initial height/weight criteria, body fat percentage is calculated using measurements from both the abdominal area and neck.
Reflecting current guidelines from FM 7-22, the Army PRT App includes comprehensive support for alternative cardio events. Users can log their PFT/BCA scores and track progress visually through graphs.
Key features of the Army PRT App include:
- Recording score metrics and test dates
- Graphical representation of scores over time
- Cloud backup of score history
- Support for alternative events
- Email and sharing options for scores
Please be aware that every effort has been made to align the app with Army PRT standards. For any discrepancies observed with established guidelines, users are encouraged to reach out for prompt investigation.
